FAQ

What does a casting agency do?

You could say that a casting agency acts as an intermediary between you and the client. Clients looking for a model will approach the casting agency, which will then make a pre-selection based on the client’s specifications. If you are included in the pre-selection, you will be called in advance to enquire whether you are available on a certain date and whether you are interested in that specific assignment. Therefore, you are not obliged to
accept every assignment we offer you. In the end, the client chooses which faces match his ideas best.

How does a casting agency make money?

All casting agencies will deduct a share of your earnings for intermediation expenses. This, by the way, is the only way an agency can make a profit. For instance, some casting agencies will charge a registration fee. However. the Dutch Casting Agency does not. Nor do we offer modelling classes or expensive photo shoots.

Why do I have to make sure that the agency has good pictures of me?

Usually, clients will only see pictures of you. You may be perfect for the job, but if your pictures are inaccurate or unclear, the client will probably not choose you and you could miss out on an interesting assignment.

Why do my pictures need to be recent?

Clients expect you to look like you do in the picture. If that is no longer the case, you might still run the risk of missing out on an assignment. And that of course would be a terrible shame. Furthermore, bookers do not want to risk sending a model to an assignment that doesn’t look like the person in the picture.

What should I and what should I certainly not invest in?

Only invest in pictures, being featured on an internet site or possibly in sedcards. But make sure you don’t pay too much for your pictures.

Where can I find the Terms and Conditions?

TIPS

Your presentation material

To present yourself well to our clients, your presentation material needs to be up to date. If you’ve had your hair cut, or have changed significantlyin any other way, make sure that we have recent, professional pictures available as quickly as possible. Models with pictures that are 3 or 4 years old will no longer be featured by us! (Even if you think you haven’t changed at all). Therefore, make sure you send new pictures to info@dutchcasting.nl or call us at +31 020-420 38 21.
As for children, we require new, recent pictures on a regular basis. Make sure you include changes in size andlength. You are allowed to take these pictures yourself.

Relocating?

Should you relocate or get a new (mobile) phone number without informing us, we will not be able to reach you when a client is interested in you. This means that you could be missing out on a great assignment. Therefore, always make sure that your contact details are up to date.

Casting

Should you relocate or get a new (mobile) phone number without informing us, we will not be able to reach you when a client is interested in you. This means that you could be missing out on a great assignment. Therefore, always make sure that your contact details are up to date.

Option

An option means that a client is interested in booking you. Your chances to get the assignment increase considerably, but there’s no guarantee yet. The client will inform the casting agency later whether your booking is final or not. It is always important to make sure you can be reached, especially in case of an option. If you’re hard to reach due to circumstances, please call us to check if your option has become a booking. Make sure to contact us during office hours (from 9 AM until 6 PM).

Be on time!

If you have been booked for an assignment, always make sure you are on time! Find out in advance how to get there and call the agencyif you have any questions.. For travel information you can call 0900-9292, or check the website www.9292ov.nl or check Google Maps. Also, make sure you bring our phone number and possibly the client’s phone umber. If you experience an unexpected delay, you can at least let us inform the client.

Physical Appearance

Make sure you always look presentable when you go to a casting or an assignment. You are your own personal business card and you only get one chance to make a first impression! So: clean hair, clean nails and tidy clothes. And ladies: don’t forget your armpits and bikini line when you are booked for swimwear or lingerie. For men: find out in advance whether you need to shave. Never change your appearance (e.g. by getting a haircut) after a casting or prior to a photo shoot. Always inform your booker in
advance if you have any scratches, wounds or other changes to your appearance she is not aware of.

Clothing

Some clients will ask you to bring your own clothes. Sometimes there will be a stylist available, but always make sure to enquire with the agency in advance. It goes without saying that the clothes that you bring with you have to be clean and ironed at all times. It is better to bring along more than you require and don’t forget accessories such as nylons (2 pairs), skin coloured underwear, scarves, socks, a briefcase, watches, bags, belts, etc.

Make-up

If a make-up artist is present, make sure that you arrive on location without make-up, so that they don’t need to waste time removing it. If there is no make-up artist available, make sure to bring sufficient make-up with you, so that you can do your own make-up, and do the basis of your make-up at home. It is important to use loose powder (to prevent glimmering).
For men: sometimes you may need to have a one-day beard. To be on the safe side, bring your shaving kit with you. Note that electricity is not available at every location.

Assignments

For every booking the rule of thumb is: you are the agency’s business card and, more importantly, your own! Prior to each assignment, we will let you know how long the assignment is expected to take. However, the duration of a shoot is hard to predict and you always need to take into account thatit may take longer. So make sure you don’t plan any other appointments immediately after the scheduled ending time.

When you are on the set, take the following into account:

  • Never bring friends with you to the set. It is extremely
    disrupting and very unprofessional.
  • Never discuss money with a client or fellow model.
That too Is not considered to be professional.
  • Never sign anything that has not been discussed
    with us in advance.
  • Call us right away if you think something is wrong.

Always inform us within 24 hours after completing an assignment how may hours you worked and, if applicable, what your travel expenses were. The quicker we can send an invoice to the client, the quicker you will have your money. But take into consideration that this could take up to two to three months at least. And don’t forget that the amount you receive is a gross amount (e.g. for photography or working as a background actor).
When you do an artistic assignment, like playing a role in a commercial, you may invoice us if you have a VAT number. Otherwise, your fee will have to be settled by a payroll agency.
